my morning SIG Alert

Good Morning,

The word of the morning here is "Generosity." According to Buddha Teacher Gil, the Buddha recommended that we begin this practice with friends and family--where it is easiest to give.

so this morning i'm gonna give you all a piece of my mind!!! noooo

i thought i'd simply give one interesting thing i learned last week. hmm...

i've learned a new word. it's an acronym really...

i was sitting in my car listening to a program on a California radio station when the traffic reporter broke in and reported:

"so far so good on San Diego's freeways, no accidents, no major slowing around town, we're looking at a little bit of drizzle this morning. if you're heading into Riverside and Orange County no major delays and no SIG alerts for you..."

"SIG alert?" what the heck is a "SIG" alert? i thought as i watched the Kansas wind blow through the window, get underneath the bill of my hat and bloooow it off into the back...

Sure Is Gusty!!!!

Stinkin' It (better not be) Gone!

Anyway...in California I'm sure the SIG alert is different. Here's what I've been able to come up with I encourage you to come up with your own.

SIG Alert

S
I
G

Stop in go traffic
Smog in typically green areas
Signals out
Sun is too glarey
SUNGLASSES!!! instant glare
Stay inside garage
Stuck in ground
Sand in gears

Sorority girl on the loose...

alternatively it might have been the "CIG Alert"

CIG Alert- def. a greasy smoking road crew worker blocking traffic

See how generous I'm being? I haven't ruined your fun today by providing some old, useless, stogy definition. Come on play along...SIG!!!! What the heck could it mean for the traffic situation in California?

Okay, once you're done playing here's the rub.

"SIG"- A Sig Alert is defined by the California Highway Patrol as "any unplanned event that causes the closing of one lane of traffic for 30 minutes or more."

According to Wikipedia, the term originated when Lloyd "Sig" Sigmon began developing a solution to the growing communication problem between the 1950's news hounds and the CHP. (The cranky CHP did not want to share its bulletins). A SIG Alert is a bulletin that would go out after a scanner device picked up the police communications on a special frequency and automatically recorded it at the news agency. Apparently in the 1950's a BIG RED ALERT BUTTON would go off!!! and all would rush to see!!! Now we just use the term to control morning rush and confuse out-of-towners.

Okay, this has been your friendly and generously created train wreck of an e-mail for today.

Happy Monday,

Amanda
